OSF Rehabilitation Services Implements Cancer Rehabilitation

OSF Rehabilitation Services is the first and only in McLean and Livingston counties to offer a new program for cancer survivors that will help them to heal faster and better. In order to provide this service to our communities, OSF first acquired STAR Program® (Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation) Certification from the Massachusetts-based Oncology Rehab Partners, leading experts in the field of survivorship care. OSF Rehabilitation is leading the way by offering excellent cancer rehabilitation services to its patients by becoming STAR Program Certified.

STAR Program Certification uniquely qualifies facilities, like OSF, to offer premium oncology rehabilitation services to survivors who suffer from debilitating side effects, caused by cancer treatments. These will be offered to patients by knowledgeable and sensitive medical staff who are specially trained to work with survivors of all forms of cancer.

Specialty caregivers from a pool of disciplines, including physicians, physical and occupational therapists, speech pathologists, dietitians, and mental health professionals will work together with each patient on a personalized rehabilitation plan to increase strength and energy, alleviate pain, and improve daily function and quality of life.

"We found compelling evidence that we needed to pursue certification in cancer rehabilitation due to a need in our community," said Stephanie Dotson, OSF Rehabilitation Services Manager. "We want this program to be the standard of care for all cancer survivors who need it."

Oncology Rehab Partners co-founder Julie Silver, MD, assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, and herself a cancer survivor said, "OSF HealthCare is setting a standard in cancer rehabilitation in Central Illinois. We are proud of this institution's STAR Program Certification!"
